Physiotherapist home visits in Hirabaug, Pune, around Hirabaug Chowk, HBC and Tilak Road, for back pain, knee pain, stroke and post-surgery recovery.
Hirabaug sits on Tilak Road in Shukrawar Peth, in the stretch of old Pune between the Swargate junction and the peths around Mandai. Most people know it by the chowk, and many simply say HBC, after the Hirabaug Business Center building beside it. If you are looking for physiotherapy in Hirabaug, or a physiotherapist near Hirabaug Chowk who will come to your door instead of asking you to travel, this page explains how our home visits work in this part of the city.
Proper Care Physiotherapy is a home-visit service. Our physiotherapists travel from our base on Katraj–Kondhwa Road to your flat, wada or bungalow, assess you in the rooms you actually live in, and leave you with a short plan you can follow between visits. Hirabaug is covered as part of our Swargate home physiotherapy service.
The spelling changes from source to source. Local news traffic notices write "Hirabag Chowk", business listings write "Hira Bagh", and the usual spelling is Hirabaug. They all point to the same junction on Tilak Road, in Shukrawar Peth. Shukrawar Peth is one of the oldest peths in the city, laid out in the 1730s in the time of Bajirao I, and its post office carries the pin code 411002.
"HBC" is the Hirabaug Business Center, a commercial building at the chowk. Listings describe it as a place for clinics, laboratories and medical stores along with shops, with lifts and security at the entrance. Because the name is so well known locally, people often give "HBC" as the address when they book. That is fine for us: tell us the building, lane or society behind it and, if you can, a landmark and where a two-wheeler can stand.
The Hirabaug Town Hall, a Grade I heritage structure listed at 989/1 Shukrawar Peth on Tilak Road, is another useful marker if you are explaining a location.
Yes. We visit homes around the chowk, along Tilak Road, and in the lanes of Shukrawar Peth and the neighbouring peths. Visits are for people who would rather not make the trip to a clinic: someone with a sore back who cannot sit in an autorickshaw for long, a parent who needs to be helped down the stairs, or a patient who has just come home from hospital. A first visit is an assessment, covering your history, your movement, any reports you have, and a plan that you and your family understand.
Hirabaug is a place people come to for medical care, and that shapes the physiotherapy needs of those who live nearby. When the building at the chowk holds consulting rooms, a laboratory and a pharmacy, a trip for a scan result or a follow-up visit becomes part of the routine of many older residents. We try to fit around this. If your surgeon or physician has a review fixed in the week, mention it when booking, so that a session can come before it and the physiotherapist can see how you are managing the walk, the steps and the seat in the waiting room.
It also means that people here often arrive with paperwork: a discharge summary, an X-ray, an MRI report. Keep them together and show them at the first visit. The physiotherapist reads them for what they allow you to do, such as how much weight to put on a leg or which movements to avoid for a few weeks, and works within those limits.
Shukrawar Peth still has wadas, the older family houses built around a central courtyard with stone walls and wooden staircases, and buildings of other ages stand along Tilak Road and in the lanes off it. We do not assume what your building is like. Some have lifts that are reliable, some have lifts that are too small for a wheelchair, and many have a flight or two of steep steps at the entrance before you reach the landing.
That matters because the staircase is often the thing that limits recovery at home. At the first visit the physiotherapist looks at your stairs, the bathroom threshold, the height of the bed and the chair you use most, and then teaches you how to manage each of them safely. Where steps are steep and narrow, we usually practise on the lower few before attempting a full flight. Our pages on knee pain physiotherapy in Hirabaug and elderly physiotherapy in Hirabaug go into this in more detail.
From our base on Katraj–Kondhwa Road the usual route runs north along Pune–Satara Road to the Swargate end and then onto Tilak Road, which links Jedhe Chowk with Alka Chowk. The road is busy at most hours, and the approach to Swargate has been slower because of the Swargate–Katraj underground metro work that has narrowed Satara Road. For that reason we book a visit as a time window rather than a fixed minute, and tell you if the physiotherapist is running late.
Festival weeks need extra planning. During Ganeshotsav 2026, the police closed the stretch from Sinhgad Garage in Ghorpade Peth to Hirabaug Chowk in the evening, with traffic sent round by Shivaji Road and Khajina Vihir Chowk. If you are booking in a festival week, tell us the date and the lane you live in, and we will suggest a morning slot or a way in that avoids the closures.
The Purple Line of the Pune Metro has two stations on this side of the city, Mahatma Phule Mandai in Shukrawar Peth and Swargate. They are handy if a relative is travelling in from another part of the city to be present at a session.
Pain-relief therapies such as TENS and dry needling are used alongside exercise, never in place of it.
Tilak Road and the chowk are crowded, with traffic from several directions, so we rarely suggest them for early walking practice. The first stage is usually the corridor or terrace of your building, and then a quieter lane at a time of day when it is clear. A larger garden such as Saras Baug, which has a jogging track and lies at the foot of Parvati hill on the Swargate side, is better for longer walks once you are confident on level ground. The physiotherapist will tell you when a crossing is safe to attempt alone, and may walk the first one with you.
Hirabaug is one of several areas around Swargate where we work. If you live a little further out, see Mukund Nagar, Shankar Sheth Road, Salisbury Park, Gultekdi and Parvati. Towards the city centre, we also cover Tilak Road and Sadashiv Peth.
Some symptoms should not wait for physiotherapy. Sudden weakness of the face, an arm or a leg, trouble speaking, chest pain, a fall with a suspected fracture, a hot swollen calf, or new loss of control over the bladder or bowel need emergency care. With clinics and a laboratory in the building at the chowk, medical help is close at hand: go there first and book physiotherapy once you have been seen.
To arrange a first visit, request an appointment and tell us your address or nearest landmark, the problem in a sentence or two, and when you are usually free. We will confirm a time window by phone. If you have a question about charges before you book, our pricing page lists them.
