Physiotherapist home visits on Tilak Road, Pune, from Swargate and Hirabaug Chowk to Alka Chowk in Sadashiv Peth, including the lanes behind it.
Tilak Road is one of those Pune streets that most people know as a route rather than an address. Buses, scooters and students stream along it from Swargate towards Alka Chowk, while the lanes on either side hold flats, old stone buildings and offices where people live quietly. Proper Care Physiotherapy is a home-visit service: our physiotherapists come to those homes, which spares a person with a sore back, a new knee replacement or a weak side after a stroke the journey through the traffic.
This page is about home physiotherapy on Tilak Road, from the Jedhe Chowk end by Swargate to the Alka Chowk end in Sadashiv Peth. It describes the road and the lanes around it, how traffic and festival closures affect a visit, what people here usually need help with, and how to book.
Named after Lokmanya Tilak, the road runs between Jedhe Chowk at Swargate and Alka Chowk in Sadashiv Peth. A builder's description of the neighbourhood calls it one of the longest commercial roads in Pune, stretching from Alka Talkies at one end to Sarasbaug at the other. Along the way it passes some well-known institutions: Sir Parshurambhau College, better known as S.P. College; Tilak Smarak Ranga Mandir, a theatre auditorium and exhibition hall dedicated to Tilak; and Nehru Stadium. Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, the Marathi literary body, also has its address on the road, near Durvankur Dining Hall.
The main road is mostly commercial, but the by-lanes behind it are quieter, with modern buildings standing next to older structures. Sadashiv Peth, which takes in the northern part of the road, still has historic wadas, and the old city's habits of living on upper floors reached by narrow stairs are not far away. That mixture is what we visit: apartment blocks with a lift, and older buildings without one.
Near the southern end, Hirabaug Town Hall stands on Tilak Road in Shukrawar Peth, and Hirabaug Chowk is the junction people name when they give directions. A commercial building called Hirabaug Business Center sits next to the road and is occupied mostly by clinics. We have a separate page for home physiotherapy in Hirabaug, and the Swargate end falls under our Swargate service area.
Postal addresses change along the road. The Sadashiv Peth and S.P. College stretch is on 411030, Hirabaug and Shukrawar Peth are on 411002, and the Swargate end, by Ghorpade Peth, uses 411042. If you are unsure which applies to you, give us the nearest chowk or building instead.
Our physiotherapists travel from the clinic base on Katraj–Kondhwa Road, normally up Pune–Satara Road to Swargate and then north onto Tilak Road. That approach has been slower in 2026, because work on the underground metro line from Swargate to Katraj has narrowed the road and produced queues at the evening rush. We therefore agree a time window with you and not an exact minute.
The road also changes during Ganeshotsav. In 2024 the police closed Tilak Road between Maratha Chambers and Jedhe Chowk for the festival, and in 2025 they barred heavy vehicles from it. The 2026 closure notices near Hirabaug Chowk named Tilak Road as an alternative to the closed stretches of Shivaji Road. In those days a visit may need a different approach route or a change of day, so tell us early if the festival falls within your treatment plan.
When you book, give us a building name and the nearest chowk, say which floor you are on and if a lift serves it, and let us know if a scooter can be left near the gate. Lanes near the road are narrow, and a quick answer to the parking question saves a long search.
Those who live and work here include shopkeepers and their staff, teachers, students from the colleges and coaching classes, office workers and a large number of older residents of the peths. Typical reasons for a visit are listed below.
Most of the benefit comes from exercise. Supporting methods such as manual therapy, IFT and TENS come in when pain stops you moving, never as a replacement for movement.
Yes. If you can travel comfortably and manage your own stairs, a clinic may do. Home care earns its place when getting there is the difficulty: a disc that flares at every bump, the weeks after a joint operation, balance that can no longer be trusted, or a parent who should not be crossing a busy junction unaccompanied. In your own flat the physiotherapist can look at the actual staircase, bathroom and bed, and relatives practise the exercises where they will be repeated.
When a patient is ready to practise walking outdoors, the main road is a poor place to start. The side lanes are calmer, and the stretch near S.P. College, with a campus of heritage buildings and open grounds, is a more relaxed setting if you are allowed in. The physiotherapist will say when you are ready for a crossing, and may walk the first one with you. Sarasbaug, at the Swargate end of the road, has a jogging track for later stages.
Tilak Road belongs to the group of neighbourhoods we serve from our Sadashiv Peth hub. Nearby pages include Narayan Peth, Shaniwar Peth and Navi Peth. Not sure whether your lane is covered? Ask us at the time of booking.
A few problems cannot wait for physiotherapy. Head for an emergency department if a face droops, an arm or leg suddenly weakens or speech slurs; if chest pain or breathlessness follows an operation; if back pain arrives with loss of control over the bladder or bowels, or numbness between the legs; or if someone cannot put weight on a leg after a fall or collision. Should our physiotherapist spot such signs mid-visit, treatment stops until a doctor has examined the patient.
You can ask for a visit through the booking page or by phone. Useful details are the closest landmark, the floor and lift, the main complaint, any recent stay in hospital and when someone will be at home. Charges for a session are shown on the pricing page. Expect the opening visit to run longer, as it includes a full assessment and a plan for the coming weeks, and expect us to say what we hope to improve without naming a recovery date.
