Ultrasound Therapy at Home in Hirabaug, Pune

Heel pain with the first steps of the day and an aching outer elbow from carrying market bags are two complaints we hear often in Hirabaug. Therapeutic ultrasound is sometimes added to treat them. We describe what it feels like, what the evidence honestly shows, and why stretching and graded loading carry most of the plan.

Two small complaints send many people to physiotherapy and keep them there longer than they expected. One is a heel that protests with the first steps out of bed. The other is an outer elbow that complains when you lift a kettle, a pan or a bag of vegetables. Both are soft-tissue problems that respond mostly to how the tissue is loaded, and therapeutic ultrasound is sometimes added as a supporting treatment.

The general description of the method is on the ultrasound therapy page. What follows covers the Hirabaug context, an honest account of the evidence, and the safety checks we make before the gel goes on.

Heels and elbows in a Hirabaug routine

Life around Hirabaug Chowk and Shukrawar Peth involves a lot of standing and carrying. Shop staff and market sellers spend hours on hard floors. Home-makers walk to Mahatma Phule Mandai, then climb stairs with a loaded bag held in a bent arm. Under those loads the plantar fascia under the heel and the tendons on the outer elbow become irritated and slow to settle, especially if the work cannot stop. Ultrasound is one tool for comfort while the real changes, in footwear, in how you carry and in strength, are being made.

How the treatment is given

Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves above the range of hearing. A hand-held treatment head, coated in conducting gel, is moved slowly in small circles over the sore area for a few minutes. The aim is to deliver gentle energy into the tissue, which may warm it or stimulate it slightly. You will not hear anything. Most people feel nothing, or a mild warmth. The gel is wiped off with a towel afterwards, and for a home visit all we need is a place to sit with the heel or elbow resting comfortably.

What the evidence actually says

Ultrasound has been used in physiotherapy for a very long time, but reviews of the research have generally found its benefit to be small, uncertain or hard to separate from the effects of rest and exercise. Some people feel better after it, and it is reasonably safe when the checks below are made, so it remains an option. We would not promise that it will settle your heel or elbow. If you notice no gain after a handful of sessions, we stop and put the time into exercises instead.

When we avoid it

  • Over the abdomen or lower back during pregnancy.
  • Over a known or suspected tumour, or an area of active infection.
  • Over an area with a possible blood clot, such as a hot, swollen calf.
  • Over skin that has lost feeling, because you cannot report if it gets too warm.
  • Over the eyes, the front of the neck, or the growth plates of a child's bones.
  • Near metal implants or electronic devices, unless the physiotherapist is sure it is appropriate.

What does the heavy lifting

For the heel, calf stretches, a plantar fascia stretch before the first step and cushioned footwear matter more than any machine. For the elbow, the plan builds grip and wrist strength in small, graded steps and changes how loads are carried, for example by holding a bag with the palm facing up instead of gripping hard with the arm bent. A strained foot or elbow that came from a sudden episode may also fall under sports injury physiotherapy in Hirabaug. Tight tissue around the area can be addressed with manual therapy.

Foot and elbow problems that should be seen first

A heel that is hot, red and swollen, or pain that follows a sudden injury and leaves you unable to push off the foot, needs a doctor's assessment before treatment. So does an elbow that is hot and swollen, or locked in one position.

If you would like your heel or elbow assessed at home, book a visit. You can read about our Hirabaug service, or about the Swargate ultrasound page.

At Home

How a home session works

The usual course of ultrasound therapy, adjusted at every visit to how you respond.

  1. Assessment to decide whether this modality or hands-on method is appropriate
  2. Short-term symptom relief to calm pain or tissue irritability
  3. Guided movement, exercise, and correction work once tolerance improves
  4. Progression toward function so the patient does not stay dependent on passive care

When to seek urgent medical care

Physiotherapy is not the right first step if any of these apply. See a doctor the same day, or call emergency services if symptoms are severe:

  • Recent major trauma, suspected fracture, or sudden inability to bear weight
  • Rapidly worsening weakness, severe numbness, fainting, or sudden loss of coordination
  • Breathing difficulty, chest pain, uncontrolled fever, or signs of infection
  • Sudden neurological change such as facial droop, speech problems, or one-sided weakness

Common Questions

Ultrasound Therapy in Hirabaug: questions patients ask

Is therapeutic ultrasound the same as a scan?
No. A scan uses sound waves to make a picture. Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves at a different setting to deliver gentle energy into tissue, and it produces no image. It is not used to diagnose anything.
Will I feel anything during treatment?
Usually very little: a slightly warm feeling at most, with gel on the skin and the treatment head moving in small circles. If you feel sharp pain or strong heat, tell the physiotherapist at once so the head can be moved or the treatment stopped.
I stand on hard floors all day near Hirabaug Chowk. Will ultrasound fix my heel?
Ultrasound alone rarely does. Heel pain from standing responds mainly to calf and foot stretches, supportive footwear and gradually increased load. Ultrasound may be tried for comfort, and we will stop if you notice no difference.
Can ultrasound be used if I have a joint replacement or metal plate?
Tell us before the visit. Metal implants need a careful decision about whether and where to treat. We may skip the area, use a different method, or ask your surgeon.
