Bhosari, Pune
After a stroke the hard work starts when the hospital stay ends. A Proper Care Physiotherapist visits you in Bhosari to assess movement, balance and walking, and teaches the family how to help safely. Sessions are planned ahead because of the distance, and the plan is designed for homes where the carer also has a shift to work.
A stroke changes a household overnight. One person cannot walk as before, or cannot use an arm, or cannot find words, and the rest of the family must work out who does what. In Bhosari, where working adults often have a fixed shift, the question is practical: who will be at home when the physiotherapist comes, and who will make sure the exercises are done when they leave?
Our stroke rehabilitation guide explains recovery in general terms. This page covers home visits in Bhosari, where we arrange sessions ahead of time because the town is a long way from our base in South Pune. The Bhosari area page describes the logistics.
A physiotherapist can only be present for part of the week. The rest of the time, the patient depends on the people around them. So each visit includes teaching: how to help someone stand without pulling on the weak arm, how to guard them on the stairs, how to position the limb in bed, and which exercises are safe for the family to repeat.
The physiotherapist begins by assessing movement in the arm and leg, muscle tone, balance sitting and standing, sensation, and walking if the patient can stand. They check whether swallowing or speech problems are present, because those need other specialists. The exercises that follow are small and repeated, aimed at the next thing the person needs to do: roll over, sit at the edge of the bed, stand with support, step.
Many families here depend on someone who works in the MIDC or drives on the Pune–Nashik Highway. We ask for the days and hours that person is home. Visits are booked as a window, not a minute, and Bhosari is far enough that we plan them in advance. The physiotherapist will tell you if they are held up. Tell us if the carer's shift changes, so that the person who learns the exercises is the person who will do them.
A stroke patient usually has follow-up visits to a neurologist or physician. Getting to them is its own challenge. Nashik Phata metro station on the Purple Line is a step-free, elevated station that opened in March 2022, and it was first named Bhosari, but a metro ride suits only someone who can walk, wait and stand safely. Most stroke patients in the first weeks go by car or auto-rickshaw, and the physiotherapist can practise getting in and out of the vehicle you will use.
Recovery varies widely from person to person. It depends on the part of the brain affected, on the person's health beforehand, and on how much appropriate practice they get. We cannot give a timetable, and we avoid promising one. What we can do is review progress at each visit, change the exercises as the person improves, and tell you plainly if progress has stalled and a doctor should reconsider.
Many stroke survivors also have weak legs and balance problems that overlap with the needs of older people generally; elderly physiotherapy in Bhosari covers those in more detail.
A new stroke can follow an earlier one. Call an ambulance for sudden weakness or numbness on one side, a drooping face, slurred speech, sudden confusion, severe headache or loss of vision, even if it passes quickly. Chest pain, a seizure, or a swollen and painful calf also needs emergency attention. Treat each of these as an emergency in its own right.
Use the booking page to send the address, the floor, the name of the person who will be home, and the hospital discharge details. If the patient is still in hospital, book before discharge so that the first visit falls in the first days at home.
At Home
The usual course of stroke rehabilitation, adjusted at every visit to how you respond.
Physiotherapy is not the right first step if any of these apply. See a doctor the same day, or call emergency services if symptoms are severe:

After my mother's paralytic stroke, home treatment was our only option. The doctor worked extensively on her arm movement and balance in her own room. Big improvement in her confidence.
My father suffered a mild stroke 4 months ago leaving his right side weak. Proper Care physiotherapists came home in Dhankawadi daily. Their patience with senior citizens is commendable. He can now walk to the balcony on his own.

After my stroke, mobility was one of the biggest challenges for me and my family. The home physiotherapy sessions were extremely helpful because the therapist could work with me in my actual home environment. The regular exercises and progression gave me confidence to keep improving.
