Bhosari, Pune
Many patients from Bhosari have surgery at a hospital some way from home, then return to a flat that was never set up for a walker. A Proper Care Physiotherapist visits you in Bhosari after discharge, follows your surgeon's instructions, and works on movement, strength and safe walking in your own rooms. Because of the distance, book the first visit before you leave hospital.
For many families in Bhosari, surgery is a day spent at a hospital elsewhere in the city, followed by a drive home that feels longer than it did on the way out. By the time the patient is in their own flat, the questions are plain ones. How do I get to the toilet? How many times may I walk the corridor? When can I climb the stairs?
The post-surgery rehabilitation guide gives the general picture. This page covers what changes at home in Bhosari, where booking ahead matters because the town is far from our base in South Pune. See also home physiotherapy in Bhosari for how visits are arranged.
The most useful hour of planning happens before discharge. Ask the surgeon what the patient may and may not do: how much weight the leg may carry, which movements to avoid, how long a collar, brace or sling is to be worn, and what signs of trouble to watch for. Ask for these in writing. A physiotherapist who knows them at the first visit can start at once.
It also helps to think about the route home. A patient with a new hip or knee will find the back seat of a car or an auto-rickshaw hard. Practise getting in and out in hospital if the staff allow it, and bring a pillow for the ride.
The physiotherapist checks the wound's appearance without disturbing dressings, looks for swelling and warmth in the limb, and tests movement within the limits the surgeon has set. Exercises begin gently: ankle and calf movements to help circulation, thigh and buttock activation, and range-of-motion work. As healing allows, they progress to standing, weight-shifting, walking with an aid, and stairs.
The type of operation shapes the plan. After joint replacement the focus is on movement and strength. After spine surgery it is on safe positions and gradual walking. After a fracture fixed with a plate or rod it is on weight-bearing as allowed. In every case the physiotherapist explains what the patient can do alone and when help is needed.
Knee operations are among the commonest in this area; our page on knee pain physiotherapy in Bhosari explains how long-term knee problems are managed before and after surgery.
Someone should be present for the first sessions. A patient who has recently had an operation may be sleepy, sore or anxious, and the family member is shown how to help them stand and walk. In households where everyone works, we ask for a contact number and a visit window when someone can be there. If no one can attend, we can send the plan to the person who booked, with the patient's consent.
The physiotherapist travels from a long way off, so please let us know as early as possible if a surgery date or discharge changes.
Call the surgeon or go to the nearest emergency department for fever, a wound that is red, hot, leaking or opening, a calf that is swollen, hot or painful, sudden shortness of breath or chest pain, numbness or colour change in the limb, or a fall that has hurt the operated area. These are medical problems and not matters to manage with exercise. Treat them as emergencies, and tell the physiotherapist afterwards.
To book, use the booking page and give the surgery type, the surgeon's name, the date and the planned discharge. If the patient has also had a stroke or is frail, see stroke rehabilitation in Bhosari for how those needs overlap.
At Home
The usual course of post-surgery rehabilitation, adjusted at every visit to how you respond.
Physiotherapy is not the right first step if any of these apply. See a doctor the same day, or call emergency services if symptoms are severe:
