Home Physiotherapy in Yerawada, Pune

Physiotherapist home visits in Yerawada, Pune, from Shastrinagar and Gunjan Chowk to Sangamwadi, for back and knee pain, stroke and post-surgery care.

Yerawada sits where Pune's old centre gives way to the Ahmednagar highway, with the river on one side and the airport side on the other. It is a crowded, mixed neighbourhood of lanes, shops, workplaces and family homes, and anyone looking for a physiotherapist in Yerawada will find that most clinics are a bus ride or a bridge crossing away from where people actually live. Proper Care Physiotherapy sends the physiotherapist to the house instead.

This page explains how home physiotherapy in Yerawada works, why the roads around Shastrinagar affect timing, what we are most often asked to treat, and how to book. The three smaller pockets, Shastrinagar, Gunjan Chowk and Sangamwadi, have pages of their own.

A neighbourhood of institutions and dense lanes

Yerawada is known to most Punekars for its large institutions: the Central Jail, built in 1871, Deccan College and the Aga Khan Palace, whose garden and museum are one of the city's quieter public places. Around them is a dense residential area, and the India Post data lists two sub post offices on the 411006 pin code, Yerwada and Yerwada T.S.

For a home visit, density matters more than any landmark. Some lanes are too narrow for a car, parking can be scarce, and an older building may reach its upper floors by steep, shared stairs. A newer block may have a lift, but the lift can be small and the bathroom tighter than the bedroom. We ask about these details when you book, so the physiotherapist arrives knowing which door to use and what the stairs look like.

Crossing the river and the works at Shastrinagar

Almost every route into Yerawada from the south crosses the Mula-Mutha, by the Fitzgerald (Bund Garden) Bridge or another crossing. Our physiotherapists start from the clinic base on Katraj–Kondhwa Road, and the approach is usually through the Cantonment side and over one of the bridges.

Once across, the pressure points are on Nagar Road. A grade separator and a flyover are being built at Shastrinagar: the civic body's plan describes a six-lane grade separator between the Aga Khan Palace and Gunjan Chowk and a four-lane flyover between the palace and Golf Chowk. In August 2026 the municipal commissioner set a four-month deadline for the grade separator and March 2027 for the whole project. A separate flyover and grade separator at Bindu Madhav Thakare Chowk, towards Sangamwadi, went to tender in 2025, and the road from there to Ambedkar Chowk has been approved for widening.

The practical result is a stretch of road that is often slow and sometimes changes layout. Police have earlier imposed a no-parking and no-halting zone near Shastri Nagar Chowk and altered turns at the junction. That is why we book Yerawada visits as a time window rather than a fixed minute, and why we ask you to name the nearest chowk and the safest place to leave a two-wheeler.

What we are most often asked to treat in Yerawada

People here tend to ask for help with a few recurring problems, and each has its own page for this neighbourhood:

General background on each problem is on our back pain, knee pain and elderly care pages. Shoulder stiffness and neck pain are also common in people who use their arms all day; see shoulder pain physiotherapy if that is your problem.

Families who share a home and a routine

In a neighbourhood where several generations often live together, the person with the problem is rarely alone at home. A grandmother recovering from a hip operation may have a daughter-in-law who is also working, and a teenager who is the only one free in the evening. A plan that only works when one person has an hour to spare will not last.

We therefore ask who is present at what time, then build the exercises into moments that already exist: after the morning tea, before the evening meal, while the pressure cooker whistles. The physiotherapist can also show the person who helps with lifting how to stand and where to hold, which protects the helper's own back as well as the patient. If a relative has questions about pain medicines or tests, those go back to the treating doctor; we explain what the exercises are for and what progress to expect to see.

Walking practice close to home

When a person can walk safely indoors, a short outing becomes part of recovery. The grounds of the Aga Khan Palace are a garden within a large walled complex, which can feel calmer than the roadside, though visiting rules and tickets are the palace's own and should be checked before going. Many people prefer simply to practise along their own lane at a quiet hour, or on a building terrace if the stairs allow.

The Yerwada metro station on the Aqua Line opened in August 2024 and is listed as wheelchair accessible, with a tactile path from the road to the platform. For someone who has had a stroke or a joint replacement, a trip on the metro can be a later goal once balance and stamina are good. We will tell you when it is sensible to try and who should go with you.

Fitting treatment around a working day

Many people in Yerawada work shifts, run a small business or cross the river to an office, so the hours when they are free rarely match the hours a clinic is open. A home visit removes the journey, which is often the part of treatment that people skip when they are tired. Tell us whether you are better placed early in the morning, between shifts or in the evening, and we will look for a window that suits, depending on availability. If you work from home or at a family business on the ground floor, the physiotherapist can also look at how you sit, stand or lift at the place where the strain actually happens.

Getting care started after a hospital stay

If a doctor has advised physiotherapy at home after a stay in hospital, you can book before discharge so that the first visit falls in the first days at home. Keep the discharge summary, the list of medicines and any instructions about weight-bearing or movement limits ready. The physiotherapist works inside those limits and checks the route from the entrance to the bed, the toilet and the chair before starting.

Neighbouring areas we also cover

The pockets of Yerawada with their own pages are Shastrinagar, Gunjan Chowk and Sangamwadi. Along Nagar Road is Kalyani Nagar, over the Bund Garden Bridge is Koregaon Park, and to the north we visit Vishrantwadi and Khadki. If your address sits between two of these, book under the name you use and mention the nearest chowk.

What the first visit includes

The first appointment is a full assessment. The physiotherapist asks about the problem and your day, checks for warning signs that need a doctor first, tests movement, strength and balance, and watches you do the tasks that hurt. Treatment usually starts in the same visit and combines hands-on work, exercise and, where suitable, a portable electrotherapy device. You leave with a short home programme and a clear next step. Session charges are listed on the pricing page.

Symptoms that need a doctor before physiotherapy

Call an ambulance or go to an emergency department for chest pain, sudden weakness or numbness on one side, a drooping face, slurred speech, a sudden severe headache, new loss of bladder or bowel control, or a fall with a possible fracture. Back pain with growing leg weakness, or a hot, swollen calf after surgery, also needs medical assessment first. Treatment can begin once a doctor has assessed you.

Booking a physiotherapist in Yerawada

Choose a date on the booking page and give the lane or road, the building and floor, the nearest chowk and whether there is a lift. We will confirm a visit window with you. The first assessment is free and does not need a scan beforehand.

Common Questions

Home physiotherapy in Yerawada: questions families ask

Do you visit homes near the Yerwada metro station and Shastrinagar Chowk?
Yes. Homes around Shastrinagar, Gunjan Chowk and Sangamwadi are covered, along with the lanes near the metro station. When you book, give the nearest chowk, the building name and the floor, and say whether there is a lift. That lets the physiotherapist plan the approach and parking before leaving.
Will the flyover work at Shastrinagar affect the visit time?
It can. Construction and traffic orders around the chowk slow movement on Nagar Road, so we agree a time window with you instead of an exact minute. If the physiotherapist is held up, you are told, and the session still runs its full length.
My mother lives on an upper floor without a lift. Can she be treated at home?
Yes, and that is a common reason to choose home visits. The physiotherapist treats her in her own rooms and looks at how she manages the stairs. Stair practice is added only when it is safe; until then the plan focuses on strength and balance indoors.
Do I need a scan or reports before the first visit?
No scan is needed to book. If you already have X-rays, MRI reports or a discharge summary, keep them ready, because they help the physiotherapist work within what the doctor has advised.
Can sessions be fitted around a shift or office hours?
Often, yes. Tell us when you are free and we will look for a suitable morning or evening slot, depending on availability. Many people in Yerawada travel across the river for work, so we plan around your day rather than ours.
