Home Physiotherapy in Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pune

Home physiotherapy in Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pimpri, Pune, near the metro station and YCM hospital, for post-discharge recovery, students and older parents.

Few corners of Pimpri carry as much public life as Sant Tukaram Nagar. The Purple Line metro station here was one of the first on the line to open, in March 2022. The municipal Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, usually called YCM, sits in the locality, and so do D. Y. Patil's college and university. Students rent rooms nearby, buses stop at Vallabhnagar, and the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway runs close by. A home physiotherapist working here is often meeting people at a turning point: just home from hospital, or about to start a new stage of recovery.

A home visit from our physiotherapists is possible in Sant Tukaram Nagar. The trip from our base on Katraj–Kondhwa Road in South Pune is long, so visits are booked in advance. See the Pimpri page for how visits work across the wider area.

Coming home from YCM

A hospital in the neighbourhood means that many local families know the sequence: admission, an operation or a stroke, a few days on a ward, and a discharge summary. It is the stage after discharge where families most often feel lost. The discharge paper lists medicines and a follow-up date, but it rarely says how to get the patient from bed to toilet, or how many steps they should take.

If you know the discharge date, book in advance. The first visit can then be placed in the first days at home, when the questions are most pressing. The physiotherapist works within the doctor's written instructions and checks them with you. For operations, see our post-surgery rehabilitation page, and for stroke our stroke rehabilitation page.

The metro, the highway and the first outing

Sant Tukaram Nagar station is elevated, with a street-level entry, a mezzanine and two side platforms that are described as wheelchair accessible. That makes the metro a realistic option for many patients, but not on day one. A crowded platform, a step across the gap and a ride with few seats ask for steady balance and a calm mind. The physiotherapist can advise when a patient is ready to try, and how to plan a quiet-hour trip with a companion.

The highway outside is another matter. Traffic along the old Mumbai–Pune road is heavy, and in 2024 the city was building a railway flyover at Pimpri Dairy Farm to give smoother access to this road and to the metro station. For a visit, that means a time window, not a minute.

Students and young workers

Wikipedia notes that many students in the area live as paying guests because of the colleges. A rented room is a small space, usually with a single bed and a desk. Back and neck pain from long study hours, poor chairs and phone use are common reasons to call. The physiotherapist checks the desk height, the chair and the way you lie to read, then sets out stretches and strengthening that fit a small room.

  • Raise the screen to eye level and use a separate keyboard where possible.
  • Stand and move every thirty to forty minutes.
  • Sleep with the neck supported, with a pillow that keeps it level.
  • Keep a firm place on the floor for exercises, where the room allows.

Our guide to neck pain physiotherapy and the back pain physiotherapy page explain what we do.

Older residents and their stairs

Older people in the neighbourhood live in a mix of walk-up buildings and lift apartments. For them, the questions are the usual ones: how many flights, whether the knee gives way, whether the bathroom floor is slippery. The physiotherapist examines strength, balance and walking, then builds an exercise plan that suits the stairs they actually use. See elderly physiotherapy in Pimpri.

First visit and urgent signs

The physiotherapist takes a history, checks the discharge papers if there are any, and examines movement, strength and balance. They leave a short plan. Chest pain, breathlessness, a swollen calf after surgery, a fever, a wound that opens, sudden one-sided weakness or slurred speech need urgent medical care, not an exercise session.

Common Questions

Home physiotherapy in Sant Tukaram Nagar: questions families ask

My father is being discharged from YCM hospital. Can I book physiotherapy at home in advance?
Yes, and early booking helps. Sant Tukaram Nagar is a long way from our South Pune base, so visits are fixed ahead, and the first visit can then fall in the first days at home. Keep the discharge summary ready for the physiotherapist.
I rent a room as a paying guest while studying. Can I get a visit?
Yes, as long as the landlord or the other residents are fine with a visitor. Tell us the building, the floor and the room, and keep a clear space for exercises. Back and neck pain from long hours of study are common reasons for a visit.
Can a patient use the metro for follow-up appointments after surgery?
Only when the surgeon and the physiotherapist agree. Sant Tukaram Nagar station is elevated, with lifts, but there are still stairs, crowds and a gap to step across. For the first follow-ups, a car or auto-rickshaw is usually easier.
How early should I book?
A few days ahead gives the most choice of time window. Visits here are not arranged at short notice because of the distance from South Pune.
