Back Pain Physiotherapy at Home in Pimpri, Pune

In Pimpri, back pain follows the working week: standing at a bench through a shift, lifting stock behind a counter, riding to a gate before dawn and sleeping at odd hours. A physiotherapist visits your home, screens for signs that need a doctor, and treats the back in the place where you rest and recover.

The factory gate, the market and the railway platform all leave their mark on a back. Someone who has spent years standing at one bench or lifting cartons over a counter learns to ignore a dull ache until the day it will not be ignored. By then it may have started to affect sleep, work and mood. Home physiotherapy brings the assessment to the room where the problem is worst: the bedroom, in the morning, before you have loosened up.

Our back pain physiotherapy page explains the condition in general. This page is about how we approach it in Pimpri. Visits here are booked in advance because the area is one of the farther zones from our base in South Pune; the Pimpri area page describes the process.

How the working week loads the back

The physiotherapist will ask about your day in detail, because the same pain has different causes in different jobs.

  • Standing at a station. A long shift in one position stiffens the hips and tires the back muscles, especially if the bench is too low or too high.
  • Repeated lifting. Boxes, tools, fabric rolls or sacks, lifted with a rounded back or while twisting.
  • Counter work. Hours on a stool with a forward slump, and sudden lifting of stock from shelves.
  • The commute. A ride on a two-wheeler through traffic or a standing journey on a crowded train.
  • Broken sleep. Rotating shifts mean sleeping in the day, often on a thin mattress in a noisy room, and the back pays for it.

A session in your bedroom or living room

We begin with the history: when the pain began, whether it travels, what makes it better or worse, any past injuries, and the work you do. A physical examination follows, looking at the way you stand, bend, twist and rise, the movement of your hips and spine and the strength of your trunk and legs. At this stage the physiotherapist screens for warning signs. If any are present, we send you for medical review before treatment.

Treatment is usually a combination of hands-on techniques to ease tight muscles and stiff joints, movement exercises, and strengthening for the trunk and hips. The exercises are chosen to fit a small room and a mattress or mat. Where knee or hip weakness is making the back work harder, the physiotherapist will look at that as well; see our knee pain physiotherapy page if both are troubling you.

Practical changes at work and at home

  • If you stand for long hours, shift your weight, alternate feet on a low rest and take short walking breaks.
  • Lift close to your body, bend from the hips and knees, and avoid twisting while carrying.
  • If you sit at a counter, put a small rolled towel behind your lower back and get up often.
  • For daytime sleep, a firm mattress, a pillow that keeps the neck level and a position with a pillow between the knees tend to help.
  • On the ride, keep your elbows relaxed and your seat position comfortable, and stop for a stretch on a long journey.

The physiotherapist will also set a short routine you can do before a shift. Ten minutes of gentle movement can matter more than an hour of hard exercise once a week.

Back pain that needs urgent medical review

Loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness between the legs, weakness in a leg that is worsening, high fever with severe back pain, or pain after a fall, a blow or a road accident need review by a doctor the same day. Unexplained weight loss with persistent night pain also needs a doctor's opinion. Go to the nearest hospital emergency department if you cannot reach your own doctor quickly.

Next steps

Tell us your shift hours or shop timings, the building and the floor, and whether a lift works. Book an appointment a few days ahead. If pain runs down a leg, our sciatica treatment page describes what we do about it.

At Home

How a home session works

The usual course of back pain physiotherapy, adjusted at every visit to how you respond.

  1. Assessment and symptom mapping to identify what is driving pain, weakness, or poor movement
  2. Early pain relief, movement support, and practical advice to reduce daily aggravation
  3. Strength, balance, mobility, or function-specific exercises matched to the patient’s recovery stage
  4. Progress review, home-program changes, and return-to-routine planning as confidence improves

When to seek urgent medical care

Physiotherapy is not the right first step if any of these apply. See a doctor the same day, or call emergency services if symptoms are severe:

  • Loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the saddle area, or rapidly worsening leg weakness
  • Severe trauma, fall, or suspected fracture involving the spine
  • Fever, unexplained weight loss, or back pain with significant illness symptoms
  • Pain so severe that standing, walking, or resting is impossible despite basic support

Common Questions

Back Pain Physiotherapy in Pimpri: questions patients ask

I work rotating shifts. Which time of day should I book?
Choose a time when you are awake and not just off a long shift, because the physiotherapist needs you to move properly and to remember the plan. Tell us your shift pattern when you book and we will look for a window that suits, depending on availability.
Can I carry on working while I have physiotherapy?
Often yes, with changes. The physiotherapist will ask what you do at work, how you lift and how long you stand, then suggest changes and sometimes lighter duties for a short period. If your work involves heavy lifting, say so at the first visit.
Do you treat back pain in Kharalwadi and Kasarwadi too?
Yes. Both neighbourhoods are part of the Pimpri area we visit. Visits there are arranged ahead of time, given the distance from our South Pune base.
Is back pain after a long ride a reason to stop riding?
Not usually. Short breaks, a comfortable seat position and strengthening exercises usually help. If riding brings on leg pain, numbness or weakness, tell the physiotherapist and your doctor.
