Ultrasound Therapy at Home in Gangadham, Pune

Proper Care Physiotherapy considers therapeutic ultrasound at home in Gangadham for stubborn, localised tendon pain such as heel pain from standing on hard floors or outer elbow pain from gripping. It is used briefly, as an add-on to exercise and load changes, after screening for conditions in which it must be avoided.

Therapeutic ultrasound has nothing to do with the scan used in pregnancy. A small handheld head, moistened with gel, sends high-frequency sound waves into the tissue under it. The idea is to deliver gentle warmth or mechanical stimulation to a tendon, ligament or the attachment of a muscle, in the hope that it settles an irritated spot.

The ultrasound therapy page covers the basics. Here we explain where it is considered at a home visit in Gangadham, how honest we are about the evidence, and who should not have it.

Heel and elbow problems that often bring it up

Ultrasound is a local treatment, so it only makes sense for a small, specific area. Two cases come up often:

  • Heel pain on the underside of the foot. People who spend the day on their feet on hard flat floors, in the kitchen or at a shop, often develop pain with the first steps in the morning. This is usually irritation of the thick band of tissue under the foot.
  • Outer elbow pain. Gripping, wringing cloth, lifting a full kettle or repeated use of a screwdriver can irritate the tendon on the outside of the elbow, giving pain when you lift or shake hands.
  • Other tendon points. The back of the heel, the knee tendon below the kneecap and the shoulder tendons are occasionally treated as well.

What the research says

The evidence for therapeutic ultrasound is limited. Some studies and reviews suggest small short-term benefits for certain tendon and joint problems, and others find no clear advantage over exercise or a sham device. Physiotherapy guidelines place much more weight on exercise, load management and, for heel pain, on footwear and stretching. We therefore use ultrasound sparingly, as an add-on for a stubborn spot, and we stop if there is no change after a short trial. It is never the main plan.

What a home session involves

  1. The physiotherapist examines the sore area and decides whether ultrasound is appropriate.
  2. You sit or lie so that the area is easy to reach, for instance with the foot on a stool, or the forearm resting on a pillow on the table.
  3. Gel is applied and the treatment head is moved slowly in small circles over the spot for a few minutes. You may feel mild warmth or nothing at all.
  4. The skin is wiped clean, and the exercise or stretching programme follows.

The unit is portable, but we do not assume that every visit includes one, so ask when you book if you want it considered.

Exercises that do the real work

For heel pain, calf stretches against the wall, a rolled bottle under the foot, supportive footwear in the flat instead of bare feet on tiles, and gradual strengthening of the foot and calf are the core. For the outer elbow, we use graded wrist strengthening with a light weight or a rubber band, changes to how you grip, and a counterforce strap if it helps. These approaches are described alongside manual therapy in Gangadham, which may be used to ease surrounding stiffness. Sudden severe pain, a sharp pop or bruising after an injury is a different matter and needs an assessment first.

Who should not have ultrasound

  • People with a pacemaker or a similar device should not have it over the chest or nearby.
  • Pregnant women should not have it over the abdomen or lower back.
  • It is avoided over a known or suspected tumour, an infection, or a clot in a vein.
  • It is avoided over the eyes, over the front of the neck and over the genitals.
  • Skin that has lost sensation, or that is broken or inflamed, is not treated.
  • Children's bone-growth areas are left alone.

Pain that needs a doctor before any therapy

Do not wait for a physiotherapy appointment if heel or elbow pain comes with a hot, swollen and red joint and fever, an obvious deformity after a fall, a calf that is swollen and tender, or numbness spreading through the hand or foot. Heel pain after a fall from height also needs an X-ray.

If your pain is of the ordinary, gradual kind, book a visit, or read how we work across Gangadham.

At Home

How a home session works

The usual course of ultrasound therapy, adjusted at every visit to how you respond.

  1. Assessment to decide whether this modality or hands-on method is appropriate
  2. Short-term symptom relief to calm pain or tissue irritability
  3. Guided movement, exercise, and correction work once tolerance improves
  4. Progression toward function so the patient does not stay dependent on passive care

When to seek urgent medical care

Physiotherapy is not the right first step if any of these apply. See a doctor the same day, or call emergency services if symptoms are severe:

  • Recent major trauma, suspected fracture, or sudden inability to bear weight
  • Rapidly worsening weakness, severe numbness, fainting, or sudden loss of coordination
  • Breathing difficulty, chest pain, uncontrolled fever, or signs of infection
  • Sudden neurological change such as facial droop, speech problems, or one-sided weakness

Common Questions

Ultrasound Therapy in Gangadham: questions patients ask

Is therapeutic ultrasound the same as a pregnancy scan?
No. The physiotherapy device is used to deliver gentle energy to tissue and does not create images. It is not used over a pregnant abdomen.
Is ultrasound enough on its own for my heel pain?
No. Calf and foot stretches, supportive footwear and gradual strengthening carry most of the benefit. Ultrasound may be tried as a short add-on if the spot stays very sore.
I stand all day at home in Gangadham on tiled floors. Could that cause heel pain?
It can contribute. Hard floors, barefoot standing and worn footwear add load under the heel. Cushioned house sandals, a brief stretch for the calves and spreading chores across the day often help, and the physiotherapist will advise on your own routine.
Does it hurt?
Usually not. You may feel gentle warmth, or nothing at all. Tell the physiotherapist if you feel burning or sharp pain, as the head should be moved or the dose reduced.
