Home Physiotherapy in Akurdi, Pune

Physiotherapist home visits in Akurdi, Pune, near Akurdi railway station and the colleges around it, for students, commuters and families, booked ahead.

Akurdi is easiest to describe through its railway station. The station stands on B.D. Tupe Road in Sector 26 of Nigdi Pradhikaran, has two platforms and a foot overbridge, and sees the Pune–Lonavala and Pune–Talegaon locals stop. Around it are engineering colleges, rented flats and a long-settled residential area. When someone searches for physiotherapy in Akurdi, the patient is likely to be a student, a young professional in a shared flat, or an older relative in a family home.

This page covers how home physiotherapy in Akurdi works, what we look for in each of those homes, and what to tell us when you book. It is part of our Nigdi zone.

The station as a reference point

India Post lists Akurdi's own sub post office on the 411035 pin code. Akurdi station is a landmark that physiotherapists, auto drivers and delivery staff all know, and it is where we ask you to start when you give directions: how far you are from the station, which side of the tracks and which road. The station itself has been under redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme since April 2025, with new waiting areas, toilet blocks and a foot overbridge among the works reported at that time. Nearby areas include Ravet, Walhekarwadi and Bijli Nagar, and the metro extension to Nigdi will add an Akurdi station of its own. On 30 August 2026, track-laying had begun between Akurdi and Nigdi.

A long journey, planned in advance

Akurdi is a long way from our base on Katraj–Kondhwa Road. We cross Pune and take the highway corridor north-west, and construction on the metro makes that trip slower and less predictable. For this reason visits are booked in advance and arranged as a time window. We cannot offer a physiotherapist at a few hours' notice here. If your medical situation is urgent, contact your doctor or a hospital first.

Study, screens and the small room

The nearby colleges bring many students to Akurdi, and Dr D. Y. Patil International University is named on the border with Ravet. A student's room is often small: a desk that doubles as a dining table, a bed used as a chair, a laptop on the knees. The consequences are neck pain, upper-back stiffness, sore wrists and tension headaches around exam time.

A home visit can fix these with very little. The physiotherapist adjusts the height of the screen with books, shows how to sit so that the feet reach the floor, teaches a few movements to do between study blocks, and treats the stiff muscles by hand. Where the problem is the lower back, back pain physiotherapy in Nigdi describes the full process. If you share a flat or live in a paying-guest room, please check that visitors are allowed and tell us whom to ask for at the entrance.

Commuters on the suburban line

Akurdi's station makes it a place from which many people commute, and the commute leaves its mark: standing in a crowded carriage, climbing a footbridge twice a day, carrying a bag along the platform. For a knee that is already sore, the stairs are a daily trial. The physiotherapist will teach you how to use the rail, which leg leads on the way up and down, and which exercises make the climb easier. See knee pain physiotherapy in Nigdi for more.

Older family members in family homes

Alongside the student flats are longer-settled households. An older parent here may live with a son or daughter who works elsewhere, and the main concern is falls. We assess strength and balance, look at the stairs and bathroom, and set a short routine. If an operation or a stroke is involved, the pages on post-surgery rehabilitation in Nigdi and elderly physiotherapy in Nigdi explain what the programme looks like.

Arranging care for someone in Akurdi from elsewhere

Many of those who book for an Akurdi patient live in another city or country. That works well if you give us a few things: the name and phone number of someone at the address, the floor and lift details, and the doctor's report. Ask for the plan in writing so that you can follow it in a call, and tell us how you would like updates. We will say honestly what the family needs to arrange.

The river in a wet year

Akurdi lies near the Pavana. In early July 2026, swollen rivers flooded low-lying parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Akurdi was among the areas named in a report. If your street is under a flood or evacuation notice, safety comes first and we reschedule. After water recedes, wet floors are a real fall risk for anyone unsteady, so keep a dry mat and non-slip footwear ready.

When to see a doctor first

Go to an emergency department for chest pain, severe breathlessness, sudden weakness of the face or limb, loss of bladder or bowel control, or a serious injury. A fever with back pain, a hot swollen calf, or a joint that is suddenly hot and red also needs a doctor before physiotherapy.

Common Questions

Home physiotherapy in Akurdi: questions families ask

I am a student living in a rented flat near Akurdi station. Can I book a visit for neck and back pain from studying?
Yes. The physiotherapist looks at how you sit and where you study, suggests changes with what you already have, and gives short exercises for the breaks between lectures or study blocks. If you share the flat, check with flatmates and the landlord that visitors are fine.
I travel daily by local train from Akurdi. Does the footbridge matter for my knee?
It can. Stairs and crowded platforms load a painful knee twice a day. The physiotherapist will suggest how to manage the climb, such as using the handrail and pacing, and strengthening to make it easier. If the knee swells or gives way, get it examined.
My parents live in Akurdi and I live abroad. Can I arrange visits from there?
Yes. Book by phone or online, give us a contact in Akurdi who can open the door, and ask for a written plan to be shared with you. We will be honest about what we see and what the family needs to arrange.
Does flooding by the Pavana affect your visits to Akurdi?
Only in the worst weeks. If your street is under a flood or evacuation notice, safety comes first and we will reschedule. Keep reports and medicines together if you have to move to a relative's home.
