Stroke Rehabilitation at Home in Hinjewadi, Pune

Stroke rehabilitation in Hinjewadi usually has to work around a busy household: adults at the office, a flat on a high floor and a hospital that may be across the city. A physiotherapist visits your home, assesses movement, balance and daily tasks, begins treatment and teaches the person who helps most how to support practice safely.

When a stroke strikes a family in Hinjewadi, it often lands on a household that has no slack. The adults leave early and return late, a parent who lives with them has become the patient, and the hospital that treated the stroke may be across Pune. The question is soon not only what exercises to do, but who will be there to help with them.

Our stroke rehabilitation guide describes the recovery process generally. This page explains how a home programme can be organised in a tower flat or a rented home around the IT Park.

What the first visit looks at

The physiotherapist begins with the hospital papers: the type of stroke, any other conditions and the instructions of the treating team. Then comes a look at what the patient can do in the flat. How do they roll in bed, sit up, stand, take weight on the weaker leg and reach with the weaker arm? How is balance when sitting and when standing? Are speech, swallowing or vision problems affecting safety? Those questions are answered by watching real movements in the actual rooms.

Treatment starts with simple, repeated practice of the tasks that matter: moving in bed, getting up from the sofa, standing steadily, taking steps. Most stroke recovery is built on repetition of meaningful movement, so the plan focuses on what can be repeated safely between visits.

Teaching the person who helps

In many Hinjewadi homes, the helper is a spouse who returns from work tired, or a paid attendant who is new to the family. Either way, we show them hands-on: where to stand, how to guide a transfer without pulling the weak arm, how to prompt rather than do everything for the patient and when to stop. A written or photographed list of three or four exercises, with the number of repetitions, makes it easier to keep going on days the physiotherapist is not there.

If a family member works from home on some days, a visit on that day lets them watch and practise under supervision.

The flat as a rehabilitation space

  • The lift and the passage. Door width, floor level at the lift entrance and the distance from lift to door decide whether a wheelchair or walker can be used.
  • The bathroom. Wet tiles, a threshold step and a toilet seat of the wrong height are risks. A stool, a grab rail and a non-slip mat can reduce them, and the physiotherapist shows how to use each.
  • The bedroom. A bed that is too soft or too low makes getting up harder. A firmer surface or a small adjustment of height can help.
  • A walking route. The corridor inside the flat is the starting point. When the patient is ready, a quiet path inside the society offers more room, with someone alongside.

Getting to follow-up appointments

Trips to a neurologist or a hospital across the city are tiring, and the roads out of the IT Park are slow at peak hours. Ask the physiotherapist to write a brief progress note you can carry to the follow-up, and plan the journey with a seat that suits the patient's weaker side. Home visits can fill the gaps between appointments, so that therapy does not stop between them. For the related problem of recovery after an operation, see post-surgery rehabilitation in Hinjewadi.

When a stroke is an emergency

A new stroke is an emergency. Call an ambulance or go to an emergency department at once if someone has sudden weakness or numbness on one side, a drooping face, slurred or confused speech, sudden loss of vision, a severe sudden headache or a loss of balance. For a patient already in rehabilitation, new symptoms of this kind, or a fall with a hard blow to the head, also need urgent care. Notes on a patient who is drowsy, much more confused than usual, or cannot swallow safely should go to the doctor before the next therapy session.

Booking

Hinjewadi is far from our South Pune base, so we ask you to book ahead, and for a stroke patient coming home from hospital, to do so before discharge. Use the booking page. Give the society, tower and nearest chowk, along with the hospital's discharge summary if you have it. More on how we work is on the home physiotherapy in Hinjewadi page, and parents living with you may also benefit from elderly physiotherapy in Hinjewadi.

At Home

How a home session works

The usual course of stroke rehabilitation, adjusted at every visit to how you respond.

  1. Assessment and symptom mapping to identify what is driving pain, weakness, or poor movement
  2. Early pain relief, movement support, and practical advice to reduce daily aggravation
  3. Strength, balance, mobility, or function-specific exercises matched to the patient’s recovery stage
  4. Progress review, home-program changes, and return-to-routine planning as confidence improves

When to seek urgent medical care

Physiotherapy is not the right first step if any of these apply. See a doctor the same day, or call emergency services if symptoms are severe:

  • Sudden facial droop, slurred speech, new one-sided weakness, or sudden confusion
  • A fall with head injury, severe dizziness, or sudden inability to stand safely
  • Breathing difficulty, chest pain, or rapidly worsening neurological function
  • Severe swallowing concerns or medical instability during activity

Common Questions

Stroke Rehabilitation in Hinjewadi: questions patients ask

Both of us work. How can we manage rehabilitation at home?
Plan the programme around the hours someone is home. The physiotherapist can schedule a visit when a family member or paid helper is present, set a short routine for the rest of the day and show the helper exactly what is safe to assist with.
Can a wheelchair be used in our tower flat?
Often yes, if the lift door and the passages are wide enough. The physiotherapist checks door widths, thresholds and the bathroom, and advises on transfers between wheelchair, bed and toilet.
When should rehabilitation start after a stroke?
The treating doctor decides when the patient is medically stable. Once discharge is planned, you can book before the patient comes home so that the first visit falls in the first days.
Do you visit stroke patients in Maan and Marunji as well?
Yes, those parts of Hinjewadi are covered, though they are among our farther areas, so book as early as you can.
