Physiotherapist home visits in Deccan Gymkhana, Pune, from Prabhat Road and FC Road to JM Road and Erandwane, for pain, stroke and surgery recovery.
People who search for home physiotherapy in Deccan Gymkhana are often not short of clinics. They are short of an easy way to reach one. This is a part of Pune where the main roads fill up with students, office-goers and shoppers from morning to night, and where a patient with a sore hip or a weak arm can find even a short trip to a clinic tiring. Proper Care Physiotherapy sends a physiotherapist to the patient's home instead, so that assessment and treatment happen where the problem shows itself.
Deccan Gymkhana takes its name from the sports club founded here in 1906, and the area is a mix of older bungalows, converted low-rise flats and newer apartment buildings, with schools, colleges and research institutes along its roads. Below you will find how our visits work here, what we are most often called for, the neighbourhoods we cover from Prabhat Road to Erandwane, and how to book.
Our physiotherapists start from the clinic base on Katraj–Kondhwa Road and head north into central Pune. The Swargate–Katraj stretch of Satara Road is under metro construction in 2026, so the first part of the journey is the slow part, and we agree a time window with you rather than promising an exact minute. Once past Swargate, the routes towards Deccan Gymkhana run along Shivaji Road, Tilak Road or the river-side roads, depending on the day's traffic.
The centre of the neighbourhood is where Karve Road, Fergusson College Road and Jangali Maharaj Road (JM Road) meet. Deccan Gymkhana metro station on the Aqua Line opened on 1 August 2023 and has a skywalk to the JM Road bus stop, so the junction is busy at every hour. The Pune Municipal Corporation announced in September 2025 that it planned to bring paid parking to Fergusson College Road and Jangli Maharaj Road, and in August 2026 it began demolishing a long-unused mechanised parking building on JM Road. In practice, kerbside space near the main roads is scarce.
When you book, please tell us the lane or by-lane you live on, a landmark close to your gate, the building name and the floor. On Prabhat Road, giving the lane number saves a great deal of time. If your gate has a visitor space, mention it. If it does not, tell us where a two-wheeler can be left for an hour.
The housing here is more varied than the busy main roads suggest. Behind FC Road and JM Road, and along the numbered lanes off Prabhat Road, there are single-family homes and bungalows, some of them rebuilt as small blocks of flats, and many of those older conversions have no lift. A patient who lives on the second or third floor of such a building may not have been down the stairs for weeks after a fall or an operation.
We treat the staircase as part of the home visit. The physiotherapist looks at the rail, the width and height of the steps, the lighting, and the landing where a walking stick is most likely to catch. Stair practice begins only when the patient is steady enough, with a family member standing one step below. Until then, the plan builds strength and balance indoors, and the family learns how to help without taking over.
Newer buildings in Erandwane and along Law College Road usually have lifts, which changes the questions instead of removing them: how wide is the lift door for a walker, how far is it from the flat, and is there a step at the building entrance? Doorways, bathroom thresholds and low beds matter in every kind of home, and we look at them in all of them.
With colleges, research institutes and older family homes side by side, and many students and young workers renting flats, the calls we get here fall into a few groups.
Walking is the main aim for many recovering patients, and the surroundings matter. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan is a large public garden on JM Road, and Kamala Nehru Park in Erandwane, on Dr. Ketkar Road, has a jogging track, lawns and a playground. Both can suit practice once the physiotherapist has cleared the patient for outings, but ask first about the surface, the distance from your gate and where you can sit and rest.
Before that point, practice stays in the home or the building's corridor. We would rather a patient walk ten steady steps on a flat surface than attempt a loop of the garden, tire, and lose confidence. Ask your physiotherapist when to move from the corridor to the lane, and from the lane to the park, and take a family member the first few times.
Our visits include the roads and localities around the Gymkhana. Each has its own page with local detail:
Deccan Gymkhana sits between several other parts of central Pune that we also serve. Towards the university and the railway line lies Shivajinagar, across the river are the old peths such as Sadashiv Peth, and along Karve Road to the west is Kothrud. If your address falls between two of these, give us the nearest chowk when you book and we will confirm that we can reach you.
The first session is mostly questions and observation. The physiotherapist asks how the problem began, what it stops you doing, which medicines you take and what the doctor has advised. Reports, discharge summaries and X-rays are useful to have out on the table, though none are required to book.
Next comes the physical examination: movement, strength, balance, sensation where relevant, and how you get on and off the bed, chair and toilet. Treatment starts in the same visit. It usually combines hands-on techniques, a small number of exercises chosen for your problem, and advice on pacing the day. The physiotherapist leaves a short written or demonstrated plan, explains which signs mean you should call, and agrees when to review progress. We do not promise a fixed number of sessions, because the right number depends on the person. The pricing page sets out what a visit costs.
Some symptoms need a doctor first. Go to a hospital emergency department for sudden weakness of the face, arm or leg, slurred speech, chest pain, a sudden severe headache, loss of bladder or bowel control, or pain and swelling in one calf after a long period in bed. Fever with a hot, swollen joint, or a wound that is red, leaking or opening after surgery, also needs a doctor's review instead of exercise. Tell the physiotherapist about any new symptom between visits, however minor it seems.
Many bookings here come from a son or daughter living elsewhere in Pune, or in another city, arranging care for a parent. That works well: give us the parent's address, a phone number for the person at home, and the days a helper or relative is present. Use the booking page to choose a time window. The first assessment is free, and we will confirm the visit by phone.
