Frozen Shoulder Physiotherapy at Home in Mukund Nagar, Pune

A frozen shoulder makes ordinary jobs difficult: reaching a kitchen cabinet, fastening a blouse or hooking a bra, pegging out washing on the balcony, even lying on that side at night. A physiotherapist comes to your Mukund Nagar flat, finds which stage the shoulder is in, and builds movement back with exercises you can do at home.

A frozen shoulder tends to show up in the small, repeated reaches of a home: the top kitchen shelf, the clothes line on the balcony, the back of a blouse, the seat belt across the body. It tends to affect people in middle age and beyond, and it can take many months to move through its stages, which is why steady work at home matters more than a few intense sessions.

Our frozen shoulder physiotherapy guide covers the general picture. This page focuses on what the shoulder is asked to do in a Mukund Nagar flat and how the home visit fits around it.

The reaches that expose a stiff shoulder

  • Kitchen cabinets. Modular kitchens have wall units above the counter, and reaching them needs overhead movement, one of the first things lost.
  • Dressing. Pulling a kurta over the head, hooking a bra behind the back, tucking in a shirt or reaching into a back pocket call for rotation that a frozen shoulder resists.
  • Balcony washing lines. Pegging out wet clothes at head height with outstretched arms is hard, and a wet bedsheet is heavy.
  • Sleeping. Rolling onto the painful side wakes people at night, and sleeping on the other side puts a pull on the sore arm.
  • Car and scooter. Reaching for a seat belt, turning the steering wheel or holding the handlebar for a long ride all load the joint.

What happens in a home session

The physiotherapist asks when the pain began, whether it is worse at night, and whether there has been an injury, a spell of immobility or a related health condition such as diabetes or thyroid disease. The shoulder is then moved, first by you and then by the physiotherapist, to compare the two. A shoulder stiff in every direction points to a frozen shoulder, while a shoulder that moves but hurts on certain actions suggests a different cause, and we may test the neck, since neck problems can refer pain to the shoulder.

The stage guides the treatment. When the shoulder is very painful and irritable, the aim is to calm it with gentle pendulum and assisted movements, positioning advice and sometimes TENS for comfort. When pain subsides and stiffness dominates, the programme moves to stretching, joint mobilisation and strengthening, with manual therapy to help the capsule glide. It is slow work, and we will not promise a timeline.

Looking after the shoulder in your own flat

  • Move the plates and vessels you use daily to counter height or a lower shelf for the time being.
  • Dress the sore arm first and undress it last. Front-opening garments and a bra that fastens at the front are easier.
  • Hang washing on a lower line or a foldable rack, and dry smaller loads to cut the weight.
  • Sleep on the other side with a pillow hugged in front of you, or on your back with a small pillow under the sore arm.
  • Use a warm shower or a warm pack for ten minutes before your exercises, if heat feels good for you.
  • Do the exercises little and often, a few minutes several times a day, stopping short of sharp pain.

Shoulder pain that is not a frozen shoulder

Shoulder pain with chest tightness, breathlessness, sweating or pain spreading into the jaw or left arm is a medical emergency until proved otherwise, so call for help. Pain after a fall with a visible deformity, a hot swollen joint with fever, or sudden weakness and a limp arm also need urgent medical attention before any physiotherapy.

Get started

Ask for a visit on the booking page and tell us which arm is affected and what you can no longer do. If you would like to know more about how we work across the area, read the Mukund Nagar service page.

At Home

How a home session works

The usual course of frozen shoulder physiotherapy, adjusted at every visit to how you respond.

  1. Assessment and symptom mapping to identify what is driving pain, weakness, or poor movement
  2. Early pain relief, movement support, and practical advice to reduce daily aggravation
  3. Strength, balance, mobility, or function-specific exercises matched to the patient’s recovery stage
  4. Progress review, home-program changes, and return-to-routine planning as confidence improves

When to seek urgent medical care

Physiotherapy is not the right first step if any of these apply. See a doctor the same day, or call emergency services if symptoms are severe:

  • Recent major trauma, suspected fracture, or sudden inability to bear weight
  • Rapidly worsening weakness, severe numbness, fainting, or sudden loss of coordination
  • Breathing difficulty, chest pain, uncontrolled fever, or signs of infection
  • Sudden neurological change such as facial droop, speech problems, or one-sided weakness

Common Questions

Frozen Shoulder Physiotherapy in Mukund Nagar: questions patients ask

How do I know it is a frozen shoulder and not a rotator cuff problem?
In a frozen shoulder the joint is stiff in all directions, including when someone else moves your arm. In a rotator cuff problem the arm usually moves passively but weakly or painfully. The physiotherapist tests both, because the exercises differ.
Will stretching hard make it recover faster?
Usually no. In the painful early stage, strong stretching tends to inflame the shoulder. The physiotherapist adjusts how much stretch to use according to the stage, and gentle, regular movement within comfort is generally better than forcing the end of the range.
I have diabetes. Does that change anything?
Frozen shoulder is more common in people with diabetes, and it can be slower to settle, so tell the physiotherapist. Keep your blood sugar under your doctor's care, and mention any other health conditions.
Can I keep cooking and hanging washing on my Mukund Nagar balcony line?
Yes, with adjustments. Move frequently used items to a lower shelf, use the stronger arm for high reaches and pace yourself. The physiotherapist will go through your own kitchen and balcony and suggest changes for the weeks of recovery.
