Home Physiotherapy on University Road, Pune

Physiotherapist home visits on University Road (Ganeshkhind Road), Pune, for students, commuters and older residents near the university.

University Road is Ganeshkhind Road under another name: the long, busy road that runs from Aundh to the Sangam end of Shivajinagar, with the Savitribai Phule Pune University campus along part of it. People searching for home physiotherapy on University Road are usually not in one neat neighbourhood. They live in societies off the road, in rented rooms, in staff or institutional quarters nearby, or in flats a few lanes back, and what they share is a daily relationship with the road itself.

Proper Care Physiotherapy visits this corridor as part of its Shivajinagar home visits. This page explains how a visit works along a road that is better known for its traffic than its houses.

Reading the map: one road, several pin codes

According to Pune's list of roads, University Road starts at the Rajiv Gandhi Bridge in Aundh and ends at the Kamgar Statue Square near the Sangam railway bridge in Shivajinagar. Senapati Bapat Road leaves it at Pune University Circle. Because the road is so long, different stretches fall under different post offices. The university campus itself is served by the Ganeshkhind post office on 411007, while parts of the Shivajinagar end use 411005 or 411016. This is why we ask for a landmark and the building name rather than relying on the pin code alone.

When you book, tell us the nearest chowk and which side of the road you are on. Crossing Ganeshkhind Road can take a long loop, so a building on the opposite side may take the physiotherapist much longer to reach than the map suggests.

Traffic, the flyover and the visit window

The University Chowk junction was long a bottleneck. A double-decker flyover there was inaugurated on 20 August 2025; at the opening one lane, from Aundh towards Shivajinagar, was in use and the ramps for the Baner and Pashan sides were still to follow. Whatever its current state, traffic on this road is heavy at office and college hours, so we agree a window for the visit rather than a fixed minute and aim to arrive outside the busiest hours where we can.

If you need to be at home for the visit, remember that a ten-minute delay on this road can be thirty at the wrong time. Tell us your tightest hour and we will try to fit it.

Using the campus for walking practice

The university grounds cover 411 acres and have long been used by people from nearby neighbourhoods for morning and evening walks. That makes the campus an attractive place to build up walking after an injury or illness: long shaded paths, little traffic and gentle gradients. Access rules for walkers have changed before, though. In 2021 the university introduced paid passes, a plan the state's education minister later ordered scrapped, so check the current rules at the gate before planning to walk there. If the campus is not open to you, a society compound or a quiet lane works almost as well.

Whichever route you choose, we start short. A first outing might be ten minutes on flat ground with a companion and a place to sit. The physiotherapist will tell you when to add distance, and when a slope or uneven ground is safe.

Students, runners and weekend sports

A university corridor has a younger population too. Students living in rented rooms and shared flats, and young staff, are among those who turn to a home visit when a sprain, a sore knee or a stiff neck gets in the way of studies. Evening running, football and cycling on or near the campus are common, and so are overuse injuries from a sudden increase in training. A home visit is easiest when the room has a clear patch of floor and a firm chair. We adapt the exercises to a small space.

For ankle sprains, knee strains and similar injuries, see our general guides to sports injury physiotherapy and knee pain physiotherapy. Students who live far from family often prefer to have a roommate or friend sit in for the first visit, which helps if there are instructions to remember.

Crossing the road safely during recovery

Pedestrian safety is a recovery issue on a road like this. A person with a weak leg, a stick, or slow reactions after a stroke should not cross Ganeshkhind Road alone. For older patients, the walk to a bus stop or a shop may be the most dangerous part of their week. We discuss it openly: which crossings have signals, whether a relative can accompany them, and whether a delivery or a home visit can replace a trip that is not essential. The page for stroke rehabilitation in Shivajinagar goes into this in more detail.

Other common problems along the corridor

When not to wait

A blow to the head, sudden weakness in an arm or leg, chest pain, severe breathlessness, or a limb that is swollen, hot and very painful needs emergency care. Go to the nearest hospital or call an ambulance; a physiotherapy visit can follow once a doctor has seen the patient.

Neighbours and booking

For lanes nearer the city, see Gokhale Nagar and Model Colony; for the side towards Aundh, see Aundh. If you are ready, request a home visit with your building name, the nearest chowk and the floor.

Common Questions

Home physiotherapy in University Road: questions families ask

Is University Road the same as Ganeshkhind Road?
Yes. The road is known by both names, and it runs from Aundh to the Sangam end of Shivajinagar. When you book, give the building name, the nearest chowk and which side of the road you are on.
I am a student in a rented room. Can the physiotherapist treat me there?
Yes, if you have a clear patch of floor and a sturdy chair or bed. We adapt exercises to a small space. A roommate or friend can sit in on the first visit to help remember the plan.
Can I use the university campus for walking after an injury?
It has long been used by neighbours for walks, but entry rules for walkers have changed before, so check them at the gate. If you cannot use it, a compound or quiet lane is a fine alternative. Start short and flat, with a companion.
Will heavy traffic delay the visit?
It might. Ganeshkhind Road is busy at office and college hours, so we agree a time window and the physiotherapist phones if there is a delay.
