Where Fatima Nagar sits
The neighbourhood takes its name from the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Fatima, which moved its headquarters to Pune in 1951. According to its Wikipedia entry, it is bordered by the Bhairoba Nala and the Pune Cantonment on the west, the Pune–Solapur highway on the north, a Christian graveyard and the State Reserve Police Force compound on the east, and Shivarkar Garden to the south. The Fatima Nagar Chowk detour
Local reports from September 2025 and March 2026 describe the right turn at Fatima Nagar Chowk as closed to vehicles coming from the city. They must go about 500 metres past, turn back and return the same distance. For a physiotherapist on a schedule, this is time that cannot be saved. A garden for the later stages of recovery
To the south of Fatima Nagar is Vitthalrao Shivarkar Udyan, a public garden where, according to local news, senior citizens come for morning walks. Residents have asked the civic body to extend its closing time, so check hours before building a routine around it. For a patient recovering from a stroke, a hip or knee replacement or a long illness, a garden path is a useful milestone, because it is flat and traffic-free. Your physiotherapist will tell you when to try it and how far to go. Early outings go more safely with a relative close by and with a walking aid if one has been prescribed.
Monsoon and the nala
The Bhairoba Nala runs along the western side of Fatima Nagar and flooded badly in September 2019, and the civic body later sanctioned money to replace a century-old bridge over it in Wanowrie. After very heavy rain, lanes near the nala may be difficult. If your approach is affected, tell us before the visit, and we will agree on a safe arrival time or reschedule.
